My journey into parenthood came after over 15 years of supporting families as a nanny and birth worker. In that time I had seen so many different ways folks choose to parent. However, it wasn’t about what I knew but what I felt that supported me the most throughout my pregnancy, birth, and immediate postpartum time. Throughout my pregnancy I made a conscious effort to truly honor how I felt. This practice became my most sacred and important tool during my birthing ceremony. The day I gave birth was the favorite day I have lived so far..by far! I usually keep this personal truth to myself, but I remember how good it felt to hear a dear friend of mine say the same thing to me when I was pregnant. I remember so deeply wanting to walk away from my pregnancy and birthing ceremony feeling empowered and connected. As someone who supports people in discovering their inner power to birth on their own terms…I finally got to practice what I preach. It wasn’t easy because it required me to self-advocate, communicate my boundaries, and to hold myself and others accountable…daily! Nonetheless, Almost a year later I can see clearly how much this practice has benefited me and I continue to reap the benefits.

To me the pregnancy and birth aren’t the only important events, but the postpartum period as well. I spent the majority of my time being pregnant planning out my postpartum. I knew I would be raw, vulnerable, and integrating all that I went through. My midwife took three pages worth of notes when she asked me “What’s your plan for postpartum support?”. The same energy people put into planning a wedding…I put into planning for my postpartum time. This took so much intention because most people want to celebrate you during the pregnancy but are no where to be found once baby is here. Or we receive so many things, none which help us at 3 am when the baby won’t sleep, your body is sore from giving birth, and your mind is racing…

When a spirit summons us, we have a spiritual contract with them. They are here to teach us some of our most profound lessons, they are the mirror we need to truly see ourselves, and all of this Can be quite difficult.

We are emerging into a new version of ourselves. We are returning to our truest nature. We are invited on a journey to fulfill all that we desire.

All this to say, my journey has been mine. But it’s also been intentional. I’d love to support you in accessing your inner voice, discovering what birthing in empowerment means for you, and figuring out what support you need during your postpartum time.

In connection and transformation,

Sumi ✨
